One of my favorite segments of clientele (and one most often overlooked in the hair and beauty industry) are women in their 50’s and 60’s. Don’t get me wrong, I still have my share of 20 something’s and lots of young moms and professionals in their 30’s and 40’s but I’ve found as I’ve grown as a stylist I’ve really enjoyed the challenge and reward of working with more mature clients. I like the attitude. I like the conversation. I like the straight forwardness and practicality of my 50+ clientele. These clients seem to really enjoy a good cup of coffee or tea. They know how to slow down and soak in the spa like atmosphere we’ve worked hard to create here. They appreciate a little pampering and are generous with the praise when they like something. There is a straight forwardness and maturity to these women that I really enjoy. I find that by and large, this clientele know what works for them and what doesn’t. They just want a stylist who will listen, really hear and then offer suggestions on how to get the best look within those parameters.
It’s been my experience that my 50+ clientele often found themselves under-appreciated and rushed through in the hustle and bustle of big city Seattle hair salons or they’re given the standard “grandma” cut and color when they visit their local beauty shop. Here at Hair By Joey I put the focus on slowing down and asking the right questions. I see each client as an individual with unique features… some they’d like to emphasize and others they’d like to minimize. Over the years, I’ve developed techniques to manage the challenges that come with aging (changes in texture, density and color) to create looks that are fresh, modern, classy and youthful while remaining age appropriate. Nobody wants to look old and tired but no one wants to look like they’re trying to be 21 again either (particularly in Seattle). With the right consultation and the correct application I’ve found that every women has a unique beauty that can be discovered and highlighted at any age.
